HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED

Meet Rebekah

Rebekah’s love for music began early—playing violin and piano at just four years old and singing even earlier at three. By six, she performed her first solo for an entire congregation and was hooked. Through years of dedicated weekly lessons, she mastered violin technique and piano proficiency by middle school and went on to become the 2nd chair violinist in her high school orchestra. She competed at statewide, national, and international levels in voice, piano, and violin—earning multiple first- and second-place awards in all three instruments.

After completing a counseling degree in South Carolina, Rebekah was accepted into the Music College at Bowling Green State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Music with a concentration in Voice Performance and Music Pedagogy. She was handpicked to study under former Metropolitan Opera soprano Myra Merritt, expanding her repertoire, vocal range, and pedagogical techniques. During her time at BGSU, she performed in operas such as Die Fledermaus, Dialogues of the Carmelites, The Pirates of Penzance, Princess Ida, and Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as solo and duet recitals in both voice and piano.

Following graduation, Rebekah moved to Munich, Germany, where she immersed herself in the rich European arts culture. She studied German intensively, traveled throughout Europe, and performed weekly in a contemporary band.

Upon returning to the U.S. in 2015, Rebekah joined a music studio in Upper Arlington as a voice, piano, and violin instructor, where she quickly grew a roster of 65+ students per week. In 2019, she officially launched the RN Music Studio in New Albany, creating a thriving space for aspiring musicians to develop their artistry.

The studio has expanded to a larger location in Creekside Gahanna, now home to a talented team of four instructors—Rebekah, Carolyn, Amber, and Tony—each bringing their unique expertise to our growing community of musicians.

The RN Music Studio students have performed in countless recitals, live and online performances, and musicals, as well as local, national, and international competitions. Many have been accepted into top music programs, including NYU, Berklee College of Music, Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

At RN Music Studio, our passion is to help develop confident, well-rounded musicians and singers, equipping them with lasting skills that go beyond the practice room and into a lifelong love of music.

Q & A with the coach

Q: How long have you been teaching?

A: I taught my first music lesson to my little brother when I was 14 years old. He was 6. And I gotta say, he picked up the basics of violin in no time! But the official answer is that I’ve been teaching professionally since 2014.

Q: What is your favorite style of music to sing and/or play?

A: Definitely Classical music… Broadway is a close second!

- But I’ll take any chance I can get to sing live Jazz music!!

Q: If you could have any role (both Broadway & Opera) what would it be?

A: Either Anastasia from Anastasia or Christine from the Phantom of the Opera. For the Opera choice, …boy this is hard… either Musetta from La Bohéme or Cunégonde from Candide. My favorite aria from Candide is “Glitter and be Gay”!

Q: How long have you been playing violin and piano?

A: Violin was my first instrument at the age of 4. I then quickly picked up piano the following year.

Q: What made you want to study Music with Voice as your main instrument?

A: I had grown up singing in church choirs my whole life, but I didn't’t find my passion for singing until I began competing. Funny thing is, I never placed in my voice solos, but I always placed 1st and 2nd in violin and piano! I never let that discourage me though, I just knew I needed to grow and pursue professional coaching. So I ran into BGSU’s Collage of Music with my least developed instrument and walked out 3 years later with a Music/Voice Performance degree absolutely thriving!

Q: Why coach private music lessons?

A: I had received private music lessons all my life from hometown music teachers to world-class professionals. The instruction I received from my coaches was individually focused on my needs as an aspiring musician and performer. My desire as a private music coach is to bring the same concentrated instruction to the individual needs of my students. Private instruction is unique in that it gives the student the full attention of a professional for a concentrated amount of time. This I believe provides the student the best opportunity in a grace filled environment to grow, and experience victory after victory!

Q: What’s your favorite snack?

A: Oh this is an easy one, my homemade coconut oil stovetop POPCORN!!!

Q: Where can we listen to your recordings?

A: I would love to have you visit either my Instagram, Soundcloud or YouTube pages! You can also hear me live at the many recitals we put on throughout the year here at the studio.
